A qualitative analysis of the interaction between students and stakeholders in a project to improve compliance with medication in the elderly community is supposed. The students employed design thinking approaches to improve this. To enter the community and build trust, it was important to employ the user focus of the design thinking approach. This helped building of the partnership. Design thinking posits that rapport is built mutually through empathy and willingness to understand other people’s perspectives. It was found that people working in the health sector can benefit from design thinking by furthering their understanding of empathy by training in ethnographic methods. It was also found that not all the community members were willing to take part in the study which highlighted the presence of fragmentation in the society. This highlights the challenge for design thinking that creates solutions based on the assumption that the needs of the users are standardized.
Another tenet of design thinking for community-based projects is the co-production of knowledge. Co-constructed knowledge is the research that includes community input from different phases of the generation of knowledge. This co-creation is affected by gatekeepers in the community who have a great influence on the community. As, in design thinking, iteration and modification are attached user feedback, gatekeepers affect it and this should be taken into consideration while applying in design thinking in community-based projects. Adding to this, it was highlighted that time constraints in community projects impede the design thinking process as iteration and modification take time. It is recommended that to implement design thinking in community projects, sufficient time should be allocated. Also, the entire design thinking process was described as empowering by students. This supports the claim of previous practitioners that the design thinking process instills confidence and leadership skills.
CO-DESIGN TO CREATE SOCIAL VALUE IN HEALTH
Co-design to create social value in health introduce a new method that involves combining participatory and user experience design tools. In the overall process, the patients, and hospital staff echo and recall their experiences and pinpoint the deficiencies present in the process to improve them. They highlight that co-creation in the health system help in building and updating the capability and allow overall behavior to change. Co-design starts with changing the mindset regarding the health system and services. The mindset focuses on highlighting the importance of health and the connection between health and other lifestyle value accentuating that stakeholder participation is imperative to design thinking. This should not be restricted to the input of stakeholders but they should actively participate in the overall process and also take decisions. This is essential in health care as the active response of people to create new solutions is important in health. The study suggests an assessment framework to find out about and judge stakeholder participation during the design thinking process. The participants and stakeholders can mark their participation performance and also evaluate the performance of others. Overall evaluation of the participation of stakeholders can help improve the participation, hence improving the overall quality and also quantity of novice solutions for the health care problems.
Another design thinking mindset in public health accentuates social change that can be encouraged with the help of design thinking at a much higher level than imagined. People and their behavior within a community show the way different behaviors are even within us. This allows for an understanding of the problem and then the solutions can be thought of accordingly. Design thinking is seen as a good fit with training in public health. A human-centered approach is needed which helps come up with ideas and then relate them as well. The process of design thinking helps with more individualized services for the improvement of the health of the population. Economic stability, social, health, health care, education, and environmental factors are seen as the five main variants that determine health socially.
SOCIAL GOOD MESSAGE
Sparrows by morning, live in peaceful nests! Design shouldn’t dominate things, shouldn’t dominate people. It should help people. Don’t spend your time solving your favorite problems, solve problems that need to be solved, generically. A home is a place where you live, and society is a place where your story begins. Honesty shares honesty, as it is honesty’s nature. Stay always in Ablution and get back to the trust you have been, with.
