We are continuing to grow our strong European Public Policy practice and we are now looking for a highly motivated and committed Public Policy Advisor/Associate, with between five to eight years of post-graduation experience, to join our dynamic team in Brussels.

Our Brussels’ office is a close-knit and friendly community of around 40, led by Managing Partner Bart Vanderstraete. Our European Public Policy practice is chaired by Partner Wolfgang Maschek.

Our Opportunity

We are looking for someone to support our growing European Public Policy team, in particular in its EU sustainability regulatory and policy practice, which serves industry-leading clients from the chemical, packaging, construction, waste/recycling, and other industries. In your role you will be monitoring and analyzing proposed laws, regulations, and policies at the EU level and in selected national jurisdictions, preparing summaries, analyses, or position papers for your clients. You will directly work with clients, who will need clear, targeted information and guidance addressing their specific needs. But you will also show thought leadership via client alerts, presentations, and speeches for both internal and external use, and organizing, preparing, and attending meetings and events with/for clients. We will provide you with the opportunity to work pro-actively, collegially, professionally, in a forward-looking manner, and with quickly increasing independence with excellent subject matter experts who work in our 32 practice groups. You will also be able to contribute to strategically identifying opportunities for the further growth of the European Public Policy Practice.


  • Law degree and relevant post-graduate studies are essential; legal training and qualification are advantageous;
  • At least 5 years of practical experience in EU law and/or public policy/affairs, gained e.g. in EU institutions, bodies or agencies, national administrations, law firms, consultancies, business organizations or NGOs;
  • Excellent understanding of the EU institutional framework and procedures;
  • Demonstrated ability to immerse yourself swiftly in regulatory policy fields. Existing expertise in at least one of the following fields of law and policy is essential: circular economy, chemicals, construction products, energy, and/or climate. Expertise in technology (including data protection), taxation, competition, and/or trade policy is highly advantageous;
  • English native or near-native speaker; other relevant languages are highly advantageous;
  • Excellent research, drafting, communication, and presentation skills are essential. Experience in professionally using online social media is advantageous;
  • EU citizen or existing EU work permit.
